The short answer

Vonage Business Communications (VBC) is Vonage's cloud phone system, with Mobile, Premium and Advanced plans listed at $19.99, $29.99 and $39.99 per line per month for small teams, and a 30% promotional discount for new annual-contract accounts bought online. The main alternatives are other cloud phone systems such as RingCentral, Nextiva and Ooma, all-in-one customer communication platforms, and AI-first platforms such as Talos Connect. Compare contract terms and add-on costs, not only the per-line price.

Key takeaways

  • As listed on Vonage's pricing page in October 2026, VBC Mobile, Premium and Advanced cost $19.99, $29.99 and $39.99 per line per month for small teams, plus taxes and fees.
  • Vonage's 30% promotion applies to new annual-contract accounts bought online, and annual contracts carry early termination fees that can reach the full contract value.
  • Business Inbox and Paperless Fax are Vonage Marketplace apps whose prices are not shown on their public product pages.
  • Vonage's AI Virtual Assistant is a managed, custom-scoped service with a dedicated conversational designer, not a self-serve add-on.
  • Talos Connect is a newer all-in-one platform with published prices and a self-serve AI receptionist, but it has no CRM or EHR integrations yet.

If you are comparing Vonage alternatives for your business phones, first be clear which Vonage you mean. Vonage links to a separate site for home phone service, but most business buyers mean Vonage Business Communications (VBC), its cloud phone system with Mobile, Premium and Advanced plans. This guide covers VBC. The realistic alternatives are other cloud phone systems such as RingCentral, Nextiva and Ooma, all-in-one customer communication platforms, and newer AI-first platforms that answer, book and follow up on calls for you.

A note on fairness. Talos Connect competes in this market, so read this guide as one vendor's view. Every Vonage price and feature below comes from Vonage's own website as we read it on October 12, 2026, and we link the pages so you can check them. Promotions and plans change, so confirm the details with Vonage before you decide.

What is Vonage Business Communications?

Vonage is a communications company. Its website groups its business offerings into three areas: Unified Communications, which is VBC; Contact Centers; and Communications APIs that developers use to build voice, video and messaging into their own software. Unified communications, or UCaaS, means one app for calls, texts, meetings and team chat, delivered over the internet as voice over IP (VoIP) instead of a traditional phone line.

VBC runs on desktop and mobile apps and on desk phones. Vonage's features page lists more than 40 VBC features and separates the ones included in plans from paid add-ons. The pricing page shows three plans:

  • Mobile. The VBC mobile and desktop apps, SMS and MMS, voicemail, number porting, the VBC Admin Portal and Virtual Receptionist, which is Vonage's automated answering and routing menu, often called an auto attendant. Vonage lists domestic calling as unlimited on all three plans, with reasonable-use terms.
  • Premium. Everything in Mobile plus support for VoIP desk phones, team messaging, Vonage Meetings for up to 200 participants, the VBC App Center with more than 20 third-party integrations for CRMs and productivity tools, and single sign-on.
  • Advanced. Everything in Premium plus call groups, on-demand call recording with 15 hours per month, and visual voicemail with transcription.

Vonage also offers add-ons through the Vonage Marketplace. Business Inbox lets a team handle SMS, MMS and Facebook Messenger conversations sent to the main company number, including toll-free numbers, in shared inboxes. Paperless Fax sends and receives faxes by email and a web portal, is available only in the US, and lets you view received faxes in the portal for up to 30 days. For both, a user requests the app and the account administrator approves it. The Business Inbox page shows no price and says administrators view pricing in their local currency, so you will need a quote or an account to see it.

Vonage pricing: what does it cost?

Vonage pricing depends on the plan, your team size, the contract term and the add-ons. These are the prices as listed on Vonage's VBC plans and pricing page in October 2026, for the smallest team size on the page.

VBC planStandard price per line per monthPromotional price, new annual contract
Mobile$19.99$13.99
Premium$29.99$20.99
Advanced$39.99$27.99

All prices are plus taxes and fees. The page also shows lower per-line prices for larger teams, down to $14.99, $24.99 and $34.99 for the three plans, and very large accounts are quoted by sales.

The terms on the same page are worth reading closely:

  • The 30% promotion is for annual contracts. It applies to new accounts bought online, up to 99 lines, and only to the monthly recurring voice line charges, not to add-ons, features, hardware or one-time charges. Vonage says the offer is valid through December 2026. Monthly plans are not eligible.
  • Early termination fees apply to annual contracts. Vonage says cancelling during the annual term is subject to early termination fees that can range up to the total price of the service contract.
  • Monthly plans carry no early termination fee, but Vonage says no refunds are provided when you cancel.
  • Taxes and fees are not included. Vonage notes that additional charges may apply and that a main local company number is included with online purchases.
  • Texting registration has fees. Vonage says Campaign Registry fees apply to the mandatory business registration for SMS.

Why do businesses look for Vonage alternatives?

Most reasons for exploring alternatives to Vonage are about fit, not fault.

  • The lowest price needs a year's commitment. The promotional rate is tied to an annual contract with early termination fees, which some owners would rather avoid.
  • Some add-on prices are hard to see before buying. Business Inbox and Paperless Fax show no price on their public pages, which makes budgeting harder for a buyer who is not a customer yet.
  • AI answering is a custom project. Vonage's AI Virtual Assistant is a managed service with scoping, sizing and a conversational designer. That suits high call volumes, but a small office may want something it can switch on in a day.
  • Recording sits on the top plan. On-demand call recording is listed on Advanced, with 15 hours per month.
  • They want front-office automation. Reminders, review requests, payment links and intake forms in the same system as the phone are common asks from local businesses.
  • A renewal is coming up. The end of a term is the natural time to look at the market.

What are the best Vonage alternatives?

Vonage competitors fall into three groups. Naming the group is more useful than a top-ten list, which goes out of date quickly.

Other cloud phone systems

These sell the same kind of product: cloud calling, texting, apps and an admin portal. If VBC works for you and you only want a different price or contract, start here.

Vonage vs RingCentral. As listed on RingCentral's pricing page in October 2026, RingEX Core is $20 per user per month billed annually or $30 month to month, and it includes 25 SMS per user per month and video meetings for up to 300 participants on every plan. RingCentral's AI Receptionist is a self-serve add-on from $39 a month with 100 minutes, then $0.50 a minute. Our RingCentral alternatives guide covers it in detail.

Vonage vs Nextiva. As listed on Nextiva's pricing page in October 2026, Nextiva Core is $15 per user per month on annual small-business pricing or $23 month to month, and Engage is $25 or $50. Nextiva's XBert AI receptionist is $99 a month for 100 interactions, then $0.99 each. See our Nextiva alternatives guide.

Ooma. Ooma also sells cloud phone service aimed at small businesses. Our Ooma alternatives guide looks at where it fits.

All-in-one customer communication platforms

These combine phones or texting with appointment reminders, review requests, payments and forms, often built for one industry. Weave and Podium are examples. You get one customer record and one login, at the cost of a bigger switching project. Our Weave alternatives guide explains how to judge them.

AI-first platforms

These are built around AI agents that answer calls, book appointments, reply to texts and make follow-up calls. If you need a Vonage alternative mainly for AI call answering, this is the group to look at. These products are newer, with fewer integrations, and they need clear rules and oversight. Talos Connect sits between this group and the all-in-one group.

Talos Connect vs Vonage

Talos Connect is an all-in-one communications platform built by Talos Automation, LLC in Houston, Texas, and available to businesses anywhere in the United States, set up and supported remotely. It combines business phones on Talos's own phone service with two-way texting, scheduling and reminders, review requests, payments, digital forms, marketing, Call Intelligence and an AI receptionist. It is a much newer product than Vonage, with a shorter track record and fewer integrations. Our comparison hub gathers all of our side-by-side pages.

Where Vonage is stronger

  • Lower entry price on a contract. Mobile at $13.99 on the annual promotion is a low starting point for phones and texting.
  • More included on the base plan. Virtual Receptionist and SMS come with every plan, where Talos Connect charges for an auto attendant and needs a Standard seat for texting.
  • Integrations and sign-on. The App Center has more than 20 integrations, with Salesforce and Microsoft Teams among Vonage's listed integrations, and Premium adds single sign-on.
  • Custom AI for high volume. The AI Virtual Assistant comes with a conversational designer who builds and tunes it for you.
  • One vendor for more. Businesses that also use a contact center or communications APIs can keep them with one company.
  • Track record. Vonage has sold business phone service far longer than Talos Connect has existed.

Where Talos Connect is stronger

  • Self-serve AI with published prices. The AI receptionist is $149 a month with 500 minutes, books, reschedules and cancels in the Talos Connect calendar, and speaks English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
  • Front-office tools included. Reminders, review requests, payment links, digital forms and text and email campaigns sit beside the phones.
  • Follow-up automation. AI outbound campaigns for recalls, reactivation and past-due balances, and an after-hours AI text agent at $49 a month.
  • Every price published. Seats, numbers, add-ons and Yealink desk phones are listed in the self-service store, and porting existing numbers is free.
  • Industry editions. Medical, dental, veterinary, restaurants, home services, law firms, salons and spas, auto repair and professional services.

See our business phone and VoIP features page for the phone details.

Who should stay with Vonage?

Vonage is probably the better fit if any of these describe you:

  • You are inside an annual contract. Early termination fees can reach the full contract value, so plan any change around your renewal date.
  • You want the lowest per-line price for phones and texting and are comfortable committing for a year.
  • You need single sign-on or App Center integrations with a CRM or productivity tool today. Talos Connect does not offer CRM integrations yet.
  • You handle high call volumes and want a custom-built AI assistant with a dedicated designer.
  • You already use Vonage's contact center or APIs and value one vendor.
  • You want Facebook Messenger in the same shared inbox as your texts.

If two or more of these apply, staying is likely the sensible choice.

How do the costs compare? A hypothetical worked example

This example is hypothetical. It uses list prices published by Vonage and Talos Connect in October 2026 and an invented four-person office. It leaves out taxes, regulatory fees, desk phones, setup, texting registration fees, Vonage Marketplace add-ons and international calling. Get written quotes for your own decision.

Suppose a four-person office wants phones and texting first, and is considering an AI receptionist. We use Vonage Premium because it is the plan that adds desk phone support, team messaging and video meetings. On Mobile, the same four lines would be 4 x $13.99 = $55.96 a month on the promotion.

Phones and texting, first year

  • Vonage Premium, annual contract with the promotion: 4 lines x $20.99 = $83.96 a month. 12 x $83.96 = $1,007.52.
  • Vonage Premium, month to month: 4 x $29.99 = $119.96 a month. 12 x $119.96 = $1,439.52.
  • Talos Connect: 4 Standard seats x $24.95 = $99.80, plus one texting number at $10 = $109.80 a month. 12 x $109.80 = $1,317.60, plus $50 one-time registration = $1,367.60.

On these numbers, Vonage on an annual contract is $360.08 cheaper in year one. Month to month, Talos Connect is $71.92 cheaper.

Adding call recording

  • Vonage moves to Advanced: 4 x $27.99 = $111.96 a month on the promotion.
  • Talos Connect adds call recording at $20 a month for the account, for $129.80 a month.

Adding an AI receptionist

  • Talos Connect adds $149 a month for 500 minutes: $109.80 + $149 = $258.80 a month.
  • Vonage's AI Virtual Assistant has no published price, so you cannot complete this line without a quote.

The point is not that one vendor wins. Vonage is cheaper for phones on a contract. The comparison changes with the term you choose and whether you need AI answering. Before you sign an annual term, also price the exit: ask Vonage to state in writing how its early termination fee would be calculated. Our savings page shows what Talos Connect replaces at different team sizes.

How do you switch from Vonage without losing calls?

Switching is where the risk is. Follow this order.

  1. Find your Vonage contract term, renewal date and early termination fee terms.
  2. List every number on the account: main line, fax, toll-free and any extra local numbers.
  3. Sign with the new vendor and start texting registration and the port request together.
  4. Export contacts, texting opt-outs, Virtual Receptionist menus and call group settings.
  5. Build and test the new system on temporary numbers.
  6. Train staff before go-live.
  7. Port numbers on a quiet day, with forwarding ready as a fallback.
  8. Cancel Vonage in writing after every port is confirmed, and return any hardware your agreement requires.

Migration checklist

  • Porting: a recent bill, the account number, any port-out PIN and an exact match of the name and service address on file.
  • Contacts and opt-outs: carry every STOP request into the new system before any campaign goes out.
  • Call flows: Virtual Receptionist menus, call groups, business hours and holiday schedules, documented screen by screen.
  • Templates: saved texts, voicemail greetings and after-hours messages.
  • Texting registration: business texting from a local number requires A2P 10DLC registration through The Campaign Registry. Approval time is outside any vendor's control. Our business texting page explains how Talos Connect handles it.
  • Fax: list every fax number and where received faxes are emailed today.
  • Hardware: which desk phones you own and whether they can be reprovisioned.

Common mistakes when comparing business VoIP providers

  • Comparing a promotional price to a standard one. Line up the same term and check how long each promotion lasts.
  • Ignoring the exit cost. An annual contract with early termination fees changes the real price if your plans change.
  • Leaving out add-ons. A shared texting inbox, fax, recording and AI answering can each change the total.
  • Assuming an integration exists. Get the exact CRM or system, version and sync direction in writing.
  • Cancelling before the port completes. This is how businesses lose their main number.
  • Forgetting texting registration. Build 10DLC approval time into your plan.
  • Skipping the hard demo. Ask each vendor to show a missed call, an after-hours call and a transfer to a person.
  • Overlooking outbound calling rules. Automated outbound calls are subject to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Ask each vendor how it handles consent and calling hours. This is not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Vonage Business Communications cost?

As listed on Vonage's pricing page in October 2026, VBC Mobile is $19.99, Premium $29.99 and Advanced $39.99 per line per month for the smallest team size, plus taxes and fees. New annual-contract accounts bought online get 30% off the voice line charge, for example $20.99 for Premium. Per-line prices are lower for larger teams, and very large accounts are quoted.

Does Vonage require a contract?

Vonage offers monthly and annual plans. Its terms say the 30% promotional discount is for annual contracts only, and cancelling an annual contract early is subject to early termination fees that can range up to the total price of the contract. Monthly plans have no early termination fee, but Vonage says no refunds are provided when you cancel.

Does Vonage have an AI receptionist?

Vonage offers an AI Virtual Assistant that can answer callers in natural language, route calls and run outbound campaigns. Vonage describes it as a high-touch managed service: you are assigned a conversational designer and every project goes through scoping and sizing. No price is published on its feature page, so expect a custom quote rather than a self-serve add-on.

Who are Vonage's main competitors?

The closest Vonage competitors are other cloud phone systems, such as RingCentral, Nextiva and Ooma, which sell calling, texting and apps for small and midsize businesses. Some businesses also compare all-in-one customer communication platforms that add reminders, reviews and payments, and AI-first platforms that answer and book calls. The right group depends on the problem you are solving.

Is Vonage home phone the same as Vonage Business?

No. Vonage's main website links to a separate site for home phone service, while its business offerings include Vonage Business Communications, a contact center product and communications APIs for developers. This guide covers Vonage Business Communications, the cloud phone system sold to companies. Home phone plans, features and prices are different, so check the right site for each.

Will Vonage sign a HIPAA business associate agreement?

Vonage's technical and organizational security practices page says Vonage is able to execute business associate agreements for applicable services for organizations with HIPAA requirements. Ask Vonage in writing which VBC features and add-ons the agreement covers before you handle patient information. Compliance also depends on how your staff use the tools. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can I keep my phone numbers if I leave Vonage?

In most cases, yes. US rules generally let you port a business number to a new provider when the details on the port request match your current provider's records. Keep your Vonage service active until the port is confirmed, check your contract term and any early termination fee first, and ask the new vendor to manage the port request.
