The short answer

Podium is a lead conversion and customer communication platform for local businesses, combining reviews, texting, payments, phones and an AI Employee, and its pricing is quote-based. Podium alternatives fall into five groups: reputation platforms such as Birdeye, healthcare all-in-ones such as Weave, phone systems paired with point tools, answering services, and AI-first platforms such as Talos Connect. Choose by must-have features, a written total cost and a migration plan.

Key takeaways

  • Podium does not publish plan prices; its pricing page sends buyers to sales and says the AI Employee can be added to any plan.
  • Podium's genuine strengths are review management, in-person and text payments, and an AI Employee that answers calls, texts and chats around the clock.
  • Podium competitors fall into five groups: reputation platforms, healthcare all-in-ones, phone systems with point tools, answering services and AI-first platforms.
  • Podium vs Birdeye is mostly a question of focus: Podium leans toward lead conversion and payments, Birdeye toward reputation, listings and multi-location marketing.
  • Talos Connect publishes list prices and includes its own phone system, but it is newer and has no CRM, practice-management or point-of-sale integrations yet.

If you are comparing Podium alternatives, you are probably weighing reviews, texting, payments and AI call answering against what you pay for them. Podium is a lead conversion and customer communication platform for local businesses, and its pricing is quote-based. The realistic alternatives are reputation platforms such as Birdeye, healthcare-focused all-in-ones such as Weave, a business phone system paired with separate tools, answering services, and newer AI-first platforms such as Talos Connect.

A note on fairness. Talos Connect competes in this category, so read this guide as one vendor's view. Every Podium fact below comes from Podium's own website, checked in October 2026. Where Podium does not publish something, we say so instead of guessing, and we do not repeat price estimates from third-party sites.

What is Podium?

Podium describes itself, on its pricing page, as a desktop and mobile platform that helps businesses attract and convert more leads. It groups communication, marketing, payments and review management in one place, with AI built into features such as bulk marketing texts, inbox replies and call summaries.

The product list on Podium's pricing page in October 2026 has nine parts:

  • Inbox. One shared team inbox for chats, texts, calls and social messages, where staff can tag coworkers on a conversation.
  • Reviews. Review invites by text, reminders, AI-written replies and one place to monitor reviews from several sites, with Google and Facebook named.
  • Payments. Invoice links sent by text, card readers, Tap to Pay on a phone, recurring payments and buy now, pay later financing, with payouts on the next business day.
  • Phones. Calls and texts from the business number on desktop or mobile, phone menus, and automatic AI transcripts and bulleted call summaries.
  • Text Marketing. AI-written text campaigns aimed at customer segments, with reporting on responses, clicks and unsubscribes.
  • Website Chat, Lead Consolidation and Automations. Listed as separate products that round out the lead-capture side; ask Podium which are in your package.
  • AI Employee. An AI agent that, per Podium's AI Employee page, answers phone calls, texts, email and social messages 24/7, books appointments directly on the business's calendar, and follows escalation rules for when a person needs to step in. An AI Studio gives a sandbox to test changes before they go live.

Podium's pricing FAQ names the industries it serves: retail, home services, automotive, health and wellness (medical spas, dermatology, plastic surgery and dental offices), and larger businesses with several locations.

Podium pricing: what does it cost?

The short answer on Podium pricing is that you have to ask. As listed on Podium's pricing page in October 2026, there are no plan names or prices on the page. It says plans are designed to fit each business and asks visitors to talk to the sales team. The FAQ says the monthly cost depends on your industry, partnerships, integrations, volume and carrier fees.

The pricing FAQ does publish some usage terms, which are worth reading before any sales call. Podium calls them Scope of Use limits:

  • Automations: 4,000 message segments per location per month, of which up to 1,000 may be MMS, with overages billed at Podium's then-current rates.
  • Voice AI: 300 minutes per month, with overages at then-current rates.
  • AI Messaging: 1,500 segments per month, with overages at then-current rates.
  • Phones: 1,000 minutes per user per month, with overages at then-current rates. Toll-free numbers are not a standard option with Phones.
  • 10DLC: a base fee of $5 per month per location. 10DLC is the carrier registration system for business texting from ordinary local numbers.
  • Bulk Messages: each plan includes a small allocation of credits, more can be bought as a plan or add-on, and credits expire at the end of each month.

So the honest answer to "what is the Podium cost for my business" is a written quote. When you request one, ask for these items line by line:

  1. The subscription price per location and the contract term.
  2. Whether Podium Phones is included, and the price per user if it is not.
  3. The AI Employee add-on price, and what Voice AI and AI Messaging overages cost.
  4. Payment processing rates for text payments, card readers and Tap to Pay.
  5. Hardware costs for card readers.
  6. Bulk message credits included and the price of more.
  7. Setup or onboarding fees, and the renewal terms.

Why do businesses look for Podium alternatives?

Shopping around is normal, and it says nothing bad about Podium. The reasons we hear are about fit.

  • They want published prices. Some owners prefer to see list prices and build a budget before talking to a salesperson.
  • They want a full phone system first. A business replacing its phone company may want desk phones, extensions and number management as the core, with texting and AI on top.
  • They are a healthcare practice. A dental or medical office that depends on practice-management sync may compare Podium with Weave and other healthcare-first platforms.
  • They run many locations. A multi-location brand may want listings, social posting and location pages managed centrally, which is where Birdeye focuses.
  • They need specific languages. Podium's AI Employee page does not list supported languages, so a business serving Spanish or Vietnamese speakers will want to test that.
  • A renewal is coming up. A contract end date is the natural time to compare.

Write your own reason down before any demo. It becomes the test every vendor has to pass.

What are the best Podium alternatives?

The best Podium alternatives depend on which part of Podium you value most. Podium competitors sort into five groups, and naming the group is more useful than a ranked list, because lists go out of date and the categories do not.

CategoryExamplesStrengthsTrade-offs
Reputation and multi-location marketing platformsBirdeyeReviews, listings, social and surveys across many locationsPhone system is not the core; pricing by quote
Healthcare-focused all-in-onesWeaveDeep practice-management integrations, healthcare workflowsBuilt around patients and providers

AI-first all-in-one platformsTalos ConnectPhones, texting, AI answering and AI outbound on one billNewer products with fewer integrations

When people search for alternatives to Podium, they usually mean the first or last group, because those are the platforms that cover reviews, texting and payments together. Our Weave alternatives guide covers the healthcare group in depth, and our Smith.ai alternatives guide covers answering services.

Podium vs Birdeye: how do the two compare?

Podium vs Birdeye is the comparison most buyers make first, because both are best known for reviews. Based on each company's own website in October 2026:

  • Focus. Podium centers on converting leads, with an AI Employee, an inbox, phones and payments. Birdeye presents itself as AI coworkers for multi-location brands: Jay for marketing (AI search, reviews, listings, social, campaigns, chatbot and location pages), Myna for operations (front desk, appointments, reminders, waitlist and insurance verification), and Robin for customer experience (surveys, insights, competitor tracking and ticketing).
  • Pricing. Both are quote-based. Birdeye's pricing page asks for your number of locations and says pricing is built around outcomes, not seat counts.
  • Fit. A single-location shop focused on leads and payments may lean toward Podium. A brand with many locations that wants listings and social managed centrally may lean toward Birdeye.

Our Birdeye alternatives guide looks at Birdeye on its own terms.

Talos Connect vs Podium

Talos Connect is an AI-first all-in-one platform from Talos Automation, LLC. It is built in Houston, Texas, and available to businesses anywhere in the United States, set up and supported remotely. It is a newer product than Podium. The table compares the two on what each company publishes. "Check with vendor" means the official site did not answer the question.

Where Podium is stronger. Payments are the clearest example: card readers, Tap to Pay, recurring autopay, financing and next-business-day payouts go well beyond sending a link. Review management is mature, with monitoring across sites and AI replies in one inbox. Website chat and lead consolidation pull in leads that never call. Podium also lists integrations with common business tools, and it has a longer track record.

Where Talos Connect is stronger. List prices are published for every seat and add-on, and the cost savings page shows full packages. The phone system is the core of the product, so seats, numbers and desk phones are part of the same bill. The AI receptionist speaks English, Spanish and Vietnamese and books during the call. AI outbound calls and an after-hours AI text agent are available as add-ons. Review requests go to every customer rather than only the happy ones. That matters because the FTC has rules on consumer reviews and review sites such as Google have policies against selectively asking only satisfied customers; see our reviews feature page for how the flow works.

Who should stay with Podium?

Podium is a strong platform, and for many businesses it is the right choice. Stay with Podium if:

  • Payments are central to how you sell. If you take in-person payments, run recurring autopay or offer financing, Podium's payments stack is broader than a text-to-pay link.
  • Reviews are your main growth lever. If monitoring and replying to reviews across several sites is a daily job, Podium is built for it.
  • Your team lives in its integrations. If your CRM or point-of-sale system syncs with Podium today, that connection is hard to replace.
  • Website chat drives your leads. Talos Connect does not offer website chat.
  • You are happy with your quote. If the price and terms work and your team uses the tools, switching costs time you may not need to spend.

How do the costs compare? A hypothetical worked example

Because Podium does not publish prices, this hypothetical example prices only the Talos Connect side from its list prices, and leaves the Podium side as a template for your own quote. The business and its numbers are invented for illustration.

Suppose a home services company has 6 staff on phones, texts customers from one main number, wants AI to answer calls and texts after hours, and needs 2 new desk phones.

Talos Connect, monthly

  • 6 Standard seats (texting included at this tier): 6 x $24.95 = $149.70
  • 1 texting number: $10.00
  • AI receptionist with 500 minutes: $149.00
  • AI text agent for after-hours texts: $49.00
  • Monthly total: $149.70 + $10.00 + $149.00 + $49.00 = $357.70

Talos Connect, one-time

  • Texting registration: $50.00
  • 2 desk phones at the $89 entry price: 2 x $89 = $178.00
  • Porting existing numbers: free
  • One-time total: $50.00 + $178.00 = $228.00

First year: (12 x $357.70) + $228.00 = $4,292.40 + $228.00 = $4,520.40.

Now test a busy month. Suppose the AI answers 200 calls averaging 3 minutes, which is 600 minutes. That is 100 minutes over the 500 included, so one extra block of 500 minutes is added at $75, and that month costs $357.70 + $75.00 = $432.70.

Podium, from your written quote

  • Subscription per location, per month
  • Podium Phones, per user, per month (6 users)
  • AI Employee add-on, per month, plus Voice AI overage beyond 300 minutes
  • 10DLC base fee: $5 per month per location, as published
  • Card readers and payment processing rates
  • Setup fees and contract term

This example leaves out taxes, regulatory fees, payment processing, extra hardware and setup labor. It is also not a like-for-like comparison: if you need card readers, website chat or review monitoring across sites, add the cost of separate tools for those to the Talos Connect column before you compare.

How do you switch from Podium without losing calls?

Switching is where the risk is. Work through the steps in order, and do not cancel anything early.

  1. Read your Podium agreement for the term end date, notice period and renewal terms.
  2. Sign with the new vendor and agree on a target go-live date outside your busy season.
  3. Start texting registration and the number port paperwork, because carrier timelines are outside any vendor's control.
  4. Export contacts, opt-out lists, templates and anything you need from message history.
  5. Build and test the new system on temporary numbers, including the AI's greeting, booking rules and escalation.
  6. Set up the new payment flow and decide how to handle customers on recurring autopay.
  7. Train staff before go-live, then port numbers on the agreed date with call forwarding as a fallback.
  8. Cancel Podium in writing only after every port is confirmed and texting is approved.

Migration checklist

Phone numbers

  • List every number: main line, texting numbers, tracking numbers and any toll-free numbers
  • Get the account number and port-out PIN from the current provider
  • Match the name and address on the port request exactly to the current records
  • Keep the old service active until the port is confirmed complete

Contacts and opt-outs

  • Export names, mobile numbers, email addresses and opt-out status
  • Carry every STOP over, because a customer who opted out must stay opted out
  • Save message history you need for your own records

Templates and campaigns

  • Copy review invites, follow-ups, reminders and campaign texts into a document
  • Note timing rules and segments, then rebuild and test them on staff phones

Texting registration

  • Register the brand and campaign for 10DLC through The Campaign Registry process your vendor manages
  • Update opt-in wording on your website and forms if needed

Reviews and payments

  • Reconnect your Google Business Profile link for review requests
  • Plan for stored cards and autopay, which usually do not transfer between processors
  • Remove the old website chat widget once the new lead capture is live

Common mistakes when comparing customer communication platforms

  • Comparing a quote with a list price. A quote may bundle discounts that end at renewal. Ask for year-two pricing in writing.
  • Ignoring usage limits. Segment caps, AI minutes and phone minutes all have overage rates. Ask every vendor, including us, to put limits and overage rates in writing.
  • Assuming features are included. A product list on a website is not a plan. Confirm each feature you need is in your package.
  • Forgetting the payment migration. Customers on autopay need a plan before you switch.
  • Losing opt-outs. Texting someone who said STOP is a compliance problem under the TCPA and a customer-relations problem.
  • Cancelling before the port completes. This is how businesses lose the number on their sign.
  • Buying on the demo alone. Ask to see a missed call, an angry review and a late-night text, not only the happy path.

For a side-by-side view of several platforms, see our platform comparison page. Our RingCentral alternatives guide covers the phone-system route.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Podium cost?

Podium does not publish plan prices. As listed on its pricing page in October 2026, buyers are asked to talk to sales, and the FAQ says monthly cost depends on industry, partnerships, integrations, volume and carrier fees. The same FAQ lists a base 10DLC fee of $5 per month per location. Ask for a written quote that covers every location, add-on and usage limit.

What are the main Podium competitors?

Podium competitors include reputation platforms such as Birdeye, healthcare-focused all-in-one platforms such as Weave, business phone systems such as RingCentral paired with separate texting and review tools, answering services such as Smith.ai and Ruby, and AI-first platforms such as Talos Connect. The right group depends on whether reviews, payments, phones or call coverage matter most to your business.

Is Birdeye better than Podium?

Neither is better in general. Both sell reviews, messaging and payments and both price by quote. Birdeye presents itself as AI coworkers for multi-location brands, with listings, social, surveys and ticketing alongside reviews. Podium centers on lead conversion, with an AI Employee, phones and payments. Run the same scripted demo with both and compare written quotes.

Does Podium include a phone system?

Podium sells Podium Phones, which lets staff call and text from the business number on desktop or mobile, set up phone menus and get AI transcripts and call summaries. Its pricing FAQ says each Phones user includes 1,000 minutes a month, with overages at then-current rates, and that toll-free numbers are not a standard option. Confirm in your quote whether Phones is included.

Can I keep my business phone number if I leave Podium?

In most cases, yes. US number porting rules generally let you move a number to a new provider, as long as the details on the port request match the current provider's records. Do not cancel the old service until the port completes, because cancelling first can release the number. Ask your new vendor to manage the port and confirm the date in writing.

Does Talos Connect connect to my CRM or point-of-sale system?

Not yet. Talos Connect has no CRM, practice-management or point-of-sale integrations today; they are on the roadmap. It offers an open API and signed webhooks that a developer can use. If your workflow depends on tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce or Square syncing with your messaging platform, weigh that heavily, because Podium lists integrations with those tools.
